Building an Indigenous Workforce in Community Care (BAIWICC)

The AAL funds two positions for Aboriginal and Torres Islander employees to support the Commonwealth to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes by ensuring that older Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people have access to culturally appropriate residential care and aged care providers have staff with the capability and skills to meet the health needs of older Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. The program supports Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander aged care staff to access full time, part time and casual employment opportunities with award wages, superannuation, leave entitlements and professional development. The program also provides training and support. It aims to better skill the Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander workforce and contribute to the quality and cultural appropriateness of aged care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
